Experienced Chinese marriage traditions at MY Chinese Corner

MY Chinese Corner which is a monthly event of MY Chinese Study was held at 7:00, 7th August. The topic of this month is about Chinese marriage traditions. We hoped students could experience different culture,on the other hand they could contact something new which beyond learnt in general course. Not only our students but also many foreign friends were invited to Sanlitun SOHO for this event.

Honestly, as a part of Chinese culture, marriage traditions are pretty abstract so that foreigners could not understand easily. Therefore, our lecturer prepared well for the explanation of difficulties. For some customs which can be performed, our male and femal staffs showed them as a bride and a groom pretendedly. In particular, for the introduction of 早生贵子, we treated students to eat dates, peanuts, longans ad loctus seeds for a simulation of congratulation which means have a baby as soon as possible. The reason why we ate those food is people connected the pronunciation of zao sheng gui zi to (zao), hua (sheng), (gui) yuan, lian (zi). Except introductions, we also compared differences of marriage traditions among China, European, Ameria and Japan.

The whole Chinese Corner lasted for one hour. At the end, some lucky guys got prizes due to right answers of quiz. A more interesting topic is coming in September at MY Chinese Study. Don’t miss it.
