1 How do we teach Chinese?
The author of the teaching materials used at MY Chinese Study is Prof. Lv Bisong, a former President of Beijing Language and Culture University who has since served as a member of Office of Chinese Language Teaching Abroad, and as an officer of Hanban, the executive body of the Chinese Language Council International.
We teach Chinese according to the students’ requirements, which we first analyze to make the class as effective as possible. We provide general and formal education to help our students to build a solid foundation. We teach by a teaching method called “first read, and then write again.”
Chinese Language is based on characters, so we integrate written Chinese teaching with oral Chinese. This allows the students to talk and write purer and more standard Chinese in a short time, and understand more about Chinese culture and thinking.
In our Survival Course, the focus is on practical and useful Chinese that can be put to use after a short period of study. The students can have simple conversations and practise in daily life. We take students outside the school to see how the locals use the phrases practised in the classroom.
For Children’s Course, we have a specially designed classroom. We use toys and video games to make the class fun and full of laughter. Not surprisingly, children will memorize the words very fast if they are having fun.
MY Chinese teachers have a solid knowledge of teaching and different teaching methods. We hold regular training to teachers every Wednesday in an open class. There, teachers can freely offer their views and observations on efficient teaching methods, to share experience and to drive the quality of teaching even higher.
